It’s Friday June 28th. 

It was on this day in 1919, the Texas Senate ratified the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote making us the first Southern state to do so, and the ninth in the nation.

GVTC held their 2024 annual meeting, welcomed the new Chairman of the Board, Clint Swindall and Josh Pettiette as the new President and CEO, plus announced an additional distribution of 8.25 million dollars in Capital Credits bringing the annual total to $23.85 million given back. GVTC also honored the retiring President and CEO Ritchie Sorrells at his final meeting, and all incumbent board members were also re-elected.

The City of Boerne is again hosting the fantastic 4th of July fireworks show at 9 pm with a production that will last 15-20 minutes.   Although the fields near the show will be closed for safety reasons, there will be free parking that is first come first serve at City Park and Champion High School, plus parking by donation at the Kendall County Fairgrounds. Food trucks will be on site with classic fair food, but you are more than welcome to bring your own coolers and snacks, as long as there is no glass.  And make sure you’re tuned in to Boerne Radio 103.9FM as we provide the patriotic soundtrack. 

After the great rain we experienced over the past two weeks, the Kendall County Commissioners Court has decided to lift the fireworks ban they set in place two weeks ago. County Fire Marshall Brady Constantine noted that the Keetch-Bryam Drought Index has “come down significantly”, meaning traditional celebrations with aerial fireworks are once again allowed.   Our sympathies to all the indoor dogs listening right now…its coming to a neighborhood near you.
