It’s Thursday - July 6th
And it was on this date in 1943 the USS William D. Porter Destroyer was commissioned. The Porter accidentally launched a torpedo that nearly missed the USS Iowa, which happened to have President Roosevelt on board at the time. Nancy Reagan was born on this date in 1921, and George W. Bush turns 77 today.

According to the San Antonio Business Journal, for the 2nd time in the past five years, Texas has been named the best state in the nation to do business by Business Facilities Magazine. In the last couple of years GAF Energy picked Georgetown for a solar roofing factory, a 221-acre data center campus open in Hutto by Skybox Datacenters, and some guy named Elon Musk dropped Tesla, SpaceX and Boring Co in areas east of Austin. San Antonio also saw big projects come through like the $2.5 billion airport expansion, and it was only a little more than 2 years ago that Boerne got a brand new radio station. That was not in the Business Journal.
If you grew up in Boerne and remember the big swimming pool that was next to Ye Kendall Inn, you may have enjoyed some ice cream your day there…well the pool was filled - its now a grassy lawn called the Waterworks Terrace and tomorrow load the kids up in the car and head down to Main Plaza because the Boerne Parks and Rec Department are hosting their first ever Ice Cream Social - they are providing the games, the fun, and the free Ice Cream. The event starts again tomorrow night at 5pm and ends at 7.
Alright Boerne - you’re making me love you more…we have accepted the challenge to sponsor - to adopt - to take care of 25 kids in the Roy Maas Youth Alternatives Boerne Meadowland Campus - we’re just trying to send these kids on a field trip to Sea World, get them some new clothes, some food to eat, transportation, and throw in some ice cream on the way home…the ask is $500 per kid for the summer - on Tuesday Jacob McBee with My Favorite Service Company said put us down for 1 - and then yesterday a great loyal faithful Boerne Radio listener heard the call - and wants to remain anonymous…but I know who you are…so we’re over the ½ way point - 14 children are covered - just 11 more to go - it’s tax deductible when you go to the Roy Maas Youth Alternatives Website and you click on the purple donate button with your best gift of any amount…can you do something right now?
The website is RMYA.org for Roy Maas Youth Alternatives. RMYA.org.
