It’s Friday November 6th.
And it’s was on this Date in 1860 that Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th President of the United States - most consider him the greatest President of all time, but he was definitely the tallest at 6’4”.
The current mayor of Fair Oaks Ranch Greg Maxton has reached the maximum amount of terms he can serve, so former councilwoman Laura Koerner has announced her candidacy for mayor this week. Besides being a public servant, Koerner is a Navy veteran and served as President of the Fair Oaks Ranch’s Municipal Development District. She plans to launch her campaign with a kickoff at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Fair Oaks Plaza.
The City of Boerne will host a public meeting on Wednesday the 18th to talk about Phase 2 of the Adler Road reconstruction project. The meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Curington Elementary School and will discuss the expected construction timeline and efforts to conserve trees. Most importantly, staff will be available to answer questions from residents and gather feedback on the project.
A Houston developer is proposing a new Pearl-style mixed-use project on about 29 acres along Main Street and Herff. The project, called Menger Creek Village, could include restaurants, shops, apartments, trails and parkland around Suggs Creek. Developers say it could add around 100-million dollars to Boerne’s property tax rolls, but planning commissioners raised concerns this week about density and the possible impact on existing downtown businesses not to mention floodplain issues. No vote has been taken yet, and the discussion is expected to continue in December.
And now that the Holiday season is upon us, it’s time to start thinking about the kids who are less fortunate. The Blue Santa Toy Drive is in full swing-the Boerne Police Department is already accepting donations and applications for families in need. Donations of new unwrapped toys or gift cards can be dropped off at the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, BPD, the Fire Department, Black Rifle Coffee Company or Apache Rifle Works. If your family is in need this holiday season, you can stop by the Sheriff’s Office or Hill Country Family Services to fill out an application.
Programming Alert: tonight Boerne Radio will air the Champion road game to Manor for their final regular-season game. Boerne is 9-and-0 and has already clinched its sixth district championship in seven years. Our coverage starts at 5 with fired up Friday and 6:30 pregame show. The weather will be perfect for Fall Football with a high of 71 - next chance for rain hits tomorrow afternoon with a low of 51.
