Boerne Radio Home and Ranch Show - #119 - Parks and Rec and Concerts and Contests

I think we owe it to Boerne’s newest A-list celebrity, Elizabeth Leachman for her heroic 5000m sprint last night. A watch party was being held at Tre Pizzeria down Main Street, and I am sure others had a barbecue or two in honor of the Champion all-star. Even the NBC commentators were amazed by her being only 16 years old… she didn’t qualify as she was up against some seasoned vets, that quite literally gave her a run for her money. She would finish 26th overall with a time of 16:36.67. But how many people in this world can say they ran their first Olympic race at age 16?-Not too many I assume. Congratulations Elizabeth, you represent this great city very well, and you will be back next year!

The Gunslingers are in Northern Arizona tonight to take on the Wranglers. San Antonio has 4 games left, including this one, to improve their record. Kickoff is at 6:05.

Boerne Radio Sports - Saturday 6/22/24

It’s Friday June 21st. 



Yesterday at 3:50 pm was the official mark of the Summer Solstice making today the first official full day of Summer…and some great rain we saw in the Boerne Bubble.

Tomorrow’s high will be in the high 80s but the rest of the week will be in the low 90s.  Summer is here.

I’m Baron Wiley. 

The Street Department is starting their annual road repair work and chip sealing, which is the best way to prolong the life of our streets. Currently they are working on E. Theissen Street and a portion of E. Evergreen but are planning to make their way to Turner Street, Crosspoint, James Street, and a couple other spots. There will most likely be detours if they are redoing the entire road, and we will keep you updated on where that might be. 



And this Saturday is a huge Rummage and Garage Sale at the Center, the nonprofit aiding the seniors in our city. The hours will be from 9 to 2 at their location on 17 Old San Antonio Rd in Kronkosky Place. If you can’t make it to this event, you can always visit their thrift store, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 3. 



And another reminder as you’ve heard in the Boerne Radio Sports report, tonight is the night that Boerne’s own Elizabeth Leachman is in Oregon racing in the 5K at 8:22 and is the only high schooler - a soon to be Junior in fact - in a field of 30.  This is the Olympic Trials -and if she qualifies, she’ll race again on Monday at 9:09pm.

Boerne Radio News - June 21, 2024

Friday 6/21

Boerne ISD was really represented well at the Nike Outdoor Nationals last week in Eugene, Oregon, as 4 area students were participants in the event. Blake Stehling from Champion placed 2nd in the shot put, and two Boerne Middle School North athletes- Sutton Amerman placed 2nd in the 800m, and Ryan Naylor placed 6th in the shot put. As you know by now, Elizabeth Leachman was also there, and placed 2nd in the 1600m. But, tonight, she will be challenged at the Olympic Qualifying races with the biggest stakes yet. The race will take place tonight at approximately 8:22 local time, and will air nationally on NBC.

Over to the big leagues… The Astros past the Rangers in the AL West for the 2nd place spot. They are currently 35-40 following a 5-3 defeat of the White Sox last night. They come home and start a weekend series with the Orioles. As for the Rangers, they got the night off yesterday and stay home to start a series with the Royals.
