Boerne ISD was really represented well at the Nike Outdoor Nationals last week in Eugene, Oregon, as 4 area students were participants in the event. Blake Stehling from Champion placed 2nd in the shot put, and two Boerne Middle School North athletes- Sutton Amerman placed 2nd in the 800m, and Ryan Naylor placed 6th in the shot put. As you know by now, Elizabeth Leachman was also there, and placed 2nd in the 1600m. But, tonight, she will be challenged at the Olympic Qualifying races with the biggest stakes yet. The race will take place tonight at approximately 8:22 local time, and will air nationally on NBC.

Over to the big leagues… The Astros past the Rangers in the AL West for the 2nd place spot. They are currently 35-40 following a 5-3 defeat of the White Sox last night. They come home and start a weekend series with the Orioles. As for the Rangers, they got the night off yesterday and stay home to start a series with the Royals.

Boerne Radio Sports - June 21, 2024

Saturday 9/28

Oh man, what a night to be a Boerne football fan… let’s start with history… Boerne Greyhounds on the road playing their first ever 5A district game… and they draw Alamo Heights. Boerne was hanging in there with a tough Mules team, and we were tied 21-21 at the half… Hank Hendrix and the offense doing what they do best with good defense to follow. Until the end of the game when Boerne scored and it was time to kickoff…. with a minute left, the onside is unsuccessful, and Alamo Heights escapes with the victory 35-28. Greyhounds are now 2-3 and 0-1 in district. 

Champion had their homecoming game and second district game last night. I don’t even know where to start in describing this game, but as Greg Simmons put it on our Boerne Radio broadcast, it was an offensive “slugfest!” Both teams were doing back and forth offensively with long passes, slant routes, and the two QBs Dailey from Seguin, and Navarette from Champion were taking chances. At the half, Champion was up 52-37… for a combined 89 points scored. That wouldn’t stop in the second half, and we were tied at 52 in the 3rd… Navarette took a shot to the leg that prompted Garland Whitehead to play backup QB, and with a Seguin hot streak of scoring, Navarette got back out there and tied it up, but they found themselves trailing… and it came down to a 4th and 10, but Navarette threw it right into a bat down. Final was 73-66, Seguin held on against Champion on homecoming night in what was a VERY competitive ball game. Chargers are now 3-2, and winless in district.

Good news is both teams get a much-needed bye week, and we pick up where we left off in 2 weeks on October 11.

Boerne Radio Sports - September 28, 2024

Friday 9/27

It’s Friday, which means we’ll have football here on the station, and it’s the last week before both teams’ bye-weeks. The Greyhounds will be in San Antonio taking on Alamo Heights… our coverage will start at 5 with ‘Fired Up Friday,’ then pregame at 6:30. Afterwards, we will either bring you a full replay of the Champion homecoming game against Seguin, or the ending depending on when the Greyhounds wrap up. The Cowboys were in New York for a divisional battle against the Giants… slow game throughout and every quarter had a single-digit score… the final from MetLife was 20-15, Cowboys improves to 2-2. But it comes at a price with Micah Parsons, crucial linebacker for America’s team, having to be carted off during the game with a presumptive leg injury… we are waiting to hear more about that.

Boerne Radio Sports - September 27, 2024

It’s Friday September 27th. 

Born on this date in 1722 was American Revolutionary and leader of the Boston Tea Party Samuel Adams. He and his second cousin John were both signers of the Declaration of Independence, with John being one of only two signers to eventually become President. Although Sam didn’t become Commander in Chief, he did serve as the Massachusetts Governor from 1794 to 1797, and can be served out of the tap at many local Boerne stops.

All three Boerne Middle Schools are participating in the Trailblazer Speaker Series in which students will have an opportunity to hear from local leaders and visionaries. Their first meeting was yesterday morning where they heard from Emma Faye Rudkin, who is the Executive Director and Founder of Aid the Silent. Her nonprofit works to assist the deaf and hard of hearing community with access to resources, and they have already helped 438 people this year improve their health and individual growth. 

Tomorrow the Cibolo Center for Conservation will be holding their first meeting for the Trailblazers youth group.  The program is for young people ages 13-18 interested in environmental conservation. They will explore volunteer opportunities, career paths, public speaking, and be in a supportive community of like-minded individuals. Meetings will be held every other Saturday from 10 to noon, and participants can receive up to 10 hours of community service this semester. You can still sign up at cibolo.link/blazers. 

And looking ahead, the Comfort Golden Age Center is hosting a Senior Singles Luncheon on October 4th at 1 pm. Put on your Sunday best next Friday and mingle at the Country Diner where you will enjoy a delicious meal.  You can RSVP now by calling 830-995-3032.
