Mike Rudd (guitar, harmonica, vocals, songwriting), co-founded Ariel with the late Bill Putt in 1973, after the breakup of their previously successful group Spectrum and The Indelible Murtceps. Mike Rudd still actively performs today with a new Spectrum line-up.

Ariel was an Australian progressive rock band that achieved international acclaim. The band released three studio albums, two live albums and 8 singles with 5 singles charting between 1973 and 1977, during which there were several line-up changes, with Rudd and Putt the only permanent members. The hit single “Jamaican Farewell” won FACB "Single of the Year". They also re-recorded Spectrum’s No.1 hit single “I’ll Be Gone”.

The album “Ariel Live at Martinis 1976” was recorded by sound engineer Michael Wickow. The album sales are fund raising for the Australian Road Crew Association (ARCA), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping ROAD CREW during hard times and serious illness through their welfare program. Many artists have generously given their permission for the release of the sound engineers’ desk tapes of their live performances that make up a diverse collection of some truly unique historical releases.
