Wikimedia marks 25 years with appointment of South African based Wikimedian

Cape Verde President José Maria Neves announced on Monday that the country will hold legislative elections on May 17 and a presidential election on November 15, following consultations with the Council of the Republic and registered political parties. He said the dates meet constitutional requirements, with a presidential runoff scheduled for November 29 if no candidate secures an outright majority. He has called on all political actors and civil society to exercise restraint and engage in high-level debate to ensure inclusive and peaceful elections. However, questions remain about how robust and trustworthy Cape Verde's governance institutions are, including the electoral commission responsible for overseeing elections in the country. Cape Verde's president announces election dates

The South African Institution of Civil Engineering - SAICE says from an engineering and transport planning perspective, the scholar transport tragedy that claimed the lives of 12 school children this week, underscores the vulnerability of scholar transport within South Africa's broader road environment. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident involved a minibus transporting learners in the Vanderbijlpark area in the Gauteng province to school which collided with a heavy vehicle on a busy arterial road. Vanderbijlpark park accident raises further questions

Uganda's Law Society has condemned the threats against opposition party leader, Bobi Wine and his family. Wine fled his home in Wakiso District when President Yoweri Museveni was announced as the president following elections last week. Museveni's son, and also the country's military leader, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, declared that he was hoping for the death of opposition figure Bobi Wine and issued a 48-hour ultimatum for him to turn himself in to authorities. Wine says he will not contest the results, citing a lack of confidence in the judiciary, but has vowed to continue standing up to Museveni.
