US Ambassador to South Africa Leo Brent Bozell has once again found himself at the centre of a diplomatic dispute after being summoned by the South African government, following recent criticism of the government. Bozell was summoned in March, shortly after arriving in the country, for saying that he did not care that South African courts had determined the "Kill the Boer" chant to be protected speech. The latest dispute marks another escalation in the increasingly strained relationship between Pretoria and the United States. Washington remains firm in its concerns over South Africa's policies on land reform, race-based economic policy, farm murders and what the US considers hate speech.
