The African Union has called on South Sudan's leaders to uphold the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity and release all people arbitrarily detained on political grounds. It has also urged an end to hostilities and agreement on a consensual electoral roadmap ahead of the country's first general elections. The call came during a virtual meeting of the C5 and IGAD member states on South Sudan. Despite concerns that elections under the current conditions could lack credibility and trigger further violence, leaders were urged to press ahead with the polls scheduled for 26 December. Lulu Gaboo spoke to Akol Miyen Kuol, a Political Analyst and Sudan & South Sudan expert.
