Senegal's parliament has elected Ousmane Sonko as speaker, just days after President Bassirou Diomaye Faye dismissed him as prime minister amid growing tensions over the government's reform agenda and how to tackle the country's worsening debt crisis. Some political commentators say the influential parliamentary role could provide Sonko with a platform to challenge the president. Meanwhile, Faye has appointed seasoned economist and former regional central bank official Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo as the new prime minister.
