Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has formally signed into law new legislation on same-sex relations. The law passed by parliament last month, with near-unanimous support, doubles the punishment for those convicted from prison sentences of one to five years to between five and 10 years. Several human rights groups have voiced concerns about the bill, including warning that it would dissuade people at risk from illnesses like HIV/AIDS from seeking help.
