The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have released four female journalists and a lawyer in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, after months in detention. The four were reportedly arrested after attending a workshop in February that focused on women's rights and issues.

According to reports, RSF personnel in civilian clothes, travelling in military vehicles, took them from their homes to undisclosed locations.

Ugandan traders and other East African migrants have begun leaving Kenya after President William Ruto's directive to close small-scale retail and hawking businesses run by foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, Government Spokesperson Charles Owino has warned against the harassment, intimidation and discrimination of foreign nationals as the government implements the new regulations on small-scale trade.

Malawi is facing a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG, a fuel increasingly used by households as a cleaner alternative to charcoal and firewood.

Supplies have been running low in the country's major towns and cities since August, adding to wider problems with fuel, electricity, water and access to foreign currency. 

The government says it plans to distribute 117 000 LPG cookstoves and 53 000 electric cookstoves by 2030. But as George Mhango reports from Blantyre, households are still struggling to find LPG, with no immediate end to the shortages in sight.

South Africa's (SA) economy contracted by 0.2% in the second quarter of 2026, following an increase of zero-point-four per cent recorded in the first quarter.

Statistics SA says the slowdown was mainly driven by declines in key production sectors such as mining and manufacturing.
