Press freedom comes under the spotlight during tax bill protest in Kenya

View descriptionShare

Protests in Kenya are continuing with many rejecting appeals from President William Ruto for dialogue following his decision to withdraw proposed tax hikes last week.

At least 24 people were killed in clashes between protesters and police last week when parliament was briefly stormed and set ablaze.

The protests, which have been led by young people and organised largely on social media, were initially sparked by a finance bill intended to raise more than two billion US dollars in taxes and are now calling for Ruto to step down.

In protests of this nature, journalists have to disseminate news freely and fairly.

But how has Kenyan media freedom been expressed during the protests Lulu Gaboo spoke to Jesse Rodgers a journalist with Kenya Television Network.
