Malawi’s Reserve Bank Deputy Governor for Economics and Regulation, Dr Kisu Simwaka, has warned that the country must urgently overhaul its economy to reduce its reliance on foreign aid and external donors.
Simwaka says Malawi is underperforming even by regional standards and must strengthen its foreign exchange reserves, rein in fiscal imbalances and remove structural barriers to growth as the global economy slows. Simwaka says Malawi needs to build greater domestic economic resilience instead of depending on donor support and exports to sustain its economy.
