Abahlali baseMjondolo, a movement of the poor in South Africa, is leading a peaceful demonstration today outside the Kempton Park Police Station in Gauteng province. The organisation is calling on community members, women’s and youth organisations, faith-based groups, trade unions and other progressive forces in Ekurhuleni to join the protest.
Abahlali baseMjondolo says the cases of femicide highlight what it describes as a failure of the systems meant to protect women from gender-based violence.
