The United Nations Human Rights office has issued a set of guidelines to enhance children's safety online and protect their rights. It is a set of 10 guidelines, entitled Getting Children's Safety Online Right.  According to media reports a major international study suggests there has been a sharp rise in what it calls "problematic" social media use among young people. Researchers came to the conclusion after surveying almost 280 thousand children aged 11, 13 and 15 across 44 countries. The #NotWaiting initiative, led by the Opportunity Africa Initiative, is calling for greater visibility of African creators, entrepreneurs and communities already driving change across the continent, with a focus on reshaping perceptions from within Africa itself.  To discuss the campaign's vision and its push to redefine ambition and opportunity, Peter Ndoro spoke to Kwame Senou, Executive Director of THOP (The Holding Opinion and Public) and member of the Opportunity Africa Creative Council.

#NotWaiting Campaign Seeks to Redefine Africa Through Innovation and Opportunity

This morning on The Discourse, we return to South Africa's migration debate, a discussion unfolding against the backdrop of persistent inequality, high unemployment, strained public services, and growing tensions in some communities. In recent weeks, there have been renewed reports of hostility toward foreign nationals in certain areas, with concerns ranging from competition for informal work to incidents of intimidation and unrest, bringing fresh attention to an already contentious issue. As the conversation continues, we examine whether these tensions stem primarily from migration, or whether they reflect deeper economic and social challenges confronting the country. We also explore why some argue that the experiences of those living on the margins are too often absent from the national debate.  Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Patrick Bond, Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg, a political economist, political ecologist and scholar of social mobilisation.
