Today marks the opening of the African Union-AIP Water Investment Summit 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa, which will run until 15 August. Convened under South Africa’s G20 Presidency, the summit brings together African Heads of State, global investors, ministers, private sector leaders, and development institutions to address Africa’s annual US$30‑billion water investment gap. It is jointly organised by the Republic of South Africa, the African Union, AUDA‑NEPAD, and the AU‑AIP High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa.

We are joined now by the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Sello Seitlholo, to unpack the summit’s significance.

The African Union-AIP Water Investment Summit 2025 opens in Cape Town, South Africa

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS)  is experiencing lower-than-optimal blood stock levels, and stabilising supply is critical for patient care.  The organisation says that while Group O and Group B are particularly important due to their compatibility and emergency use, all blood groups are urgently needed.  They have highlighted that January donations drop every year due to holiday travel, limited drives and disrupted routines.  The organisation is calling on the public to go and donate, detailing that a single 30-minute donation can save up to three lives.  To discuss this issue further, is the SANBS's Senior Manager: Marketing, Communication and Brand Johannesburg.

SANBS Calls on Public to Donate Blood as Stock Levels Drop

South Africa is running out of water and time... With 37% of treated water lost every day and household use far above global norms, demand could outstrip supply by 2030. The Water Research Commission says the country is approaching water scarcity mostly because of lack of water usage knowledge. To mend this, the Commission is running a campaign titled -  'A WaterWise Nation' . The campaign is focused on human behaviour and how to use and save clean water to avert a crisis.To discuss this further is Dr Jennifer Balatedi Molwantwa - CEO of the Water Research Commission in South Africa.
