Women judges from across the continent have gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa for the 2nd High-Level Meeting of Women Judicial Leaders of Africa. 
The three-day meeting, hosted by the country's judiciary in partnership with the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa, comes as the continent marks 20 years since the adoption of the Maputo Protocol, a key legal framework aimed at protecting women’s rights.  Delegates used the gathering to assess progress in gender equality within the courts and to strengthen judicial responses to violence and discrimination.  Musa Mhlongo filed this report…

Women judges meet in Johannesburg to advance gender justice, mark Maputo Protocol milestone

Mozambican civil rights organisations, including the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD) and Amnesty International, are demanding urgent compensation, justice, and reparations for victims of the October 2024 deadly anti-government uprising. Reports indicate over 400 people were killed and severe injuries from police brutality during the protests. The demand is part of an ongoing inclusive national dialogue aimed at peace building following the 2024 general elections. Peter Ndoro spoke to Prof. Adriano Nuvunga, Director of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD)
