Nepal floods: Rescue efforts continue as African nationals remain among those reported missing

View descriptionShare

On The Discourse this morning, we turn our attention to Nepal, where massive search-and-rescue and mop-up operations are continuing following devastating flash floods swept through parts of the country on Wednesday. The disaster has killed hundreds and left more than 1,000 people missing, including hundreds of foreign nationals, with Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading among the worst-affected districts. For audiences across Africa, there are particular concerns about Africans caught up in the disaster, with six South African nationals currently reported missing; no other African nationality has been separately identified in the latest published breakdown. For a look at the situation facing foreign nationals and African citizens on the ground, the communities most severely affected and what aid workers urgently need, we spoke to Prabin Basnyat, a researcher and philanthropist, he is speaking to us from Tarakeshwar Municipality in Nepal's Bagmati Province
