Botswana has officially struck down sections of its law that criminalised same-sex relations. The decision follows a landmark 2019 High Court ruling that declared the law to be illegitimate. Botswana joins several African countries that are amending their laws in efforts to root out discrimination, inequality and human rights violation. Africa's legal landscape remains deeply polarized as strict anti-homosexuality laws still exist and are being enforced in some countries.
