Africa Roundup: Key developments shaping Africa and the world over the past 24 hours

Fewer than half of people surveyed across Africa say they have a reliable supply of electricity, according to a new report by Afrobarometer. The study, covering 38 African countries, finds that rural and poorer households are significantly less likely to have access to reliable power. Almost a quarter of those surveyed say they use alternative sources of electricity, most commonly solar. For more on what the findings mean for households and governments across the continent, we're joined by Daniel Iberi, Afrobarometer's Communications Coordinator for East Africa.

South Africa is hosting the 10th China Homelife Expo, bringing together around 450 Chinese manufacturers and thousands of buyers. The three-day trade exhibition is being held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, north of Johannesburg. It features products ranging from electronics and building materials to furniture, household goods and new-energy solutions. The expo opened on Wednesday. Channel Africa's Michael Mbewe reports

China Homelife Expo in South Africa brings 450 manufacturers and buyers together in Midrand

Prominent Tanzanian human rights activist, lawyer and Chairperson of Chadema- the country's main opposition party, Tundu Lissu, entered his final submission and closing arguments in his treason court case yesterday (Wednesday). He told the judges hearing his case that the judgement would not only concern him, but will set a historic legal precedent.  Addressing the court, Lissu urged the three judges on his case that they should act with courage, without bias, and in accordance with their oaths. He submitted that the state case against him was political. He is facing a treason charge and if found guilty, he could serve a life sentence in jail. Lissu is also charged with a publishing false information.  To discuss this further, we are joined by his Chief Legal counsel Dr Rugemeleza Nshara
