The African World Heritage Youth Forum, which gathers about 30 youth participants from various parts of the African continent, began last week and is being held virtually this year. 

The forum culminates with the annual Celebration of the African World Heritage Day on May 5 under the banner of the African Union Year for Arts, Culture and Heritage: Building the levers for the Africa we want.

Armed gangs are rife across Nigeria's northwest where they rob or kidnap for ransom, and violence has been increasing, where thinly stretched security forces often fail to stop the attacks.

In Mozambique, the growth of the national economy is expected to be around 9.3% between 2024 and 2033, but the majority of Mozambicans will likely remain poor. It is in this sense that the proposal to create a Sovereign Fund for the equitable distribution of wealth from gas is being discussed. Milton Maluleque with the details.

Mozambique proposes Sovereign Fund to curb poverty

A group of civil society organisations in South Africa has launched litigation against government over what it says are "unfair and exclusionary" regulations for the $22 Social Relief of Distress Grant.

They want the current regulations declared unconstitutional and set aside.

The group says the regulations deprive millions of people in need of social assistance.

Under the new regulations, grant applicants are disqualified if they have an income into their bank account of more than $22 per month.
