Nigeria's Zamfara state will start issuing licenses to individuals to carry guns to defend themselves against armed gangs of kidnappers causing havoc in the country's northwest.

Armed gangs are rife across Nigeria's northwest where they rob or kidnap for ransom, and violence has been increasing, where thinly stretched security forces often fail to stop the attacks.

Nigeria to issue gun licenses to citizens

A group of civil society organisations in South Africa has launched litigation against government over what it says are "unfair and exclusionary" regulations for the $22 Social Relief of Distress Grant.

They want the current regulations declared unconstitutional and set aside.

The group says the regulations deprive millions of people in need of social assistance.

Under the new regulations, grant applicants are disqualified if they have an income into their bank account of more than $22 per month.

Zambia is currently investigating a case of suspected Monkeypox detected in one female in her early 20s who was recently on a trip from the United States of America.

This is the first suspected case. Meanwhile, as the country is in serious threat of Monkeypox, it is still battling Covid-19 and other disease outbreaks that have a potential of disrupting the entire health system if not urgently dealt with.
