A group of civil society organisations in South Africa has launched litigation against government over what it says are "unfair and exclusionary" regulations for the $22 Social Relief of Distress Grant.
They want the current regulations declared unconstitutional and set aside.
The group says the regulations deprive millions of people in need of social assistance.
Under the new regulations, grant applicants are disqualified if they have an income into their bank account of more than $22 per month.
