The South African Special Investigating Unit and Transnet have been granted a preservation order by the country's Special Tribunal to freeze approximately four point two billion rand held in bank accounts linked to a locomotive company called- CRRC E-Loco Supply.
It is alleged that the company paid kick-backs to influence the awarding of tenders at Transnet. CRRC E-Loco Supply is the South African division of the state-owned Chinese train manufacturer.
It was awarded three contracts by Transnet to supply 554 locomotives for approximately $1.8 billion rand between 2011 and 2014.
