Science will now play a key role in the protection of Rhinos against rampant poaching. A pioneering project, involving radioactive isotopes is underway in the Eastern Cape. The aim of the project is to decrease the value and the demand of Rhino horns in the black market. This will be done by making the horn radioactive, without posing danger to the animal or its surrounds. The origin of a horn can also be pinpointed through its isotope marking. In Mozambique, the growth of the national economy is expected to be around 9.3% between 2024 and 2033, but the majority of Mozambicans will likely remain poor. It is in this sense that the proposal to create a Sovereign Fund for the equitable distribution of wealth from gas is being discussed. Milton Maluleque with the details.

Mozambique proposes Sovereign Fund to curb poverty

A group of civil society organisations in South Africa has launched litigation against government over what it says are "unfair and exclusionary" regulations for the $22 Social Relief of Distress Grant.

They want the current regulations declared unconstitutional and set aside.

The group says the regulations deprive millions of people in need of social assistance.

Under the new regulations, grant applicants are disqualified if they have an income into their bank account of more than $22 per month.
