Tension between China and Taiwan are once again playing out on African soil, after Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te had to cancel a planned visit to Eswatini, one of the few countries that still maintains diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
Several African nations reportedly denied overflight access to his aircraft. Taipei has accused Beijing of exerting pressure on countries such as Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar, highlighting the growing influence of China across the continent.
