The Maasai people, who have lived in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania- a UNESCO World Heritage Site say they are not ready to leave the area in the name of conservation. This after they protested in one of Tanzania's most important tourism destinations over their eviction. The protests on World Heritage Day sought to highlight UNESCO's complicity in the Tanzanian government's long-standing plan to evict them from the area .A panel of eight UN experts recently issued a public statement saying conservation efforts must not come at the expense of human rights.
