According to a new analysis by fibre-network operator Fibretime, South Africa's population may well exceed 95 million, far more than the official figures suggest.
In a challenge to the last census data, Fibretime says its own data and remote-sensing analysis reveal a much larger population than previously thought. Meanwhile official numbers by Statistics South Africa place the population at 63.1 million a figure based on their Mid-Year Population Estimates report, which indicates a population that is largely Black African, with the majority living in Gauteng province.
