Germany has handed over a former Libyan senior commander, Khaled Ali El Hishri, to the International Criminal Court in what prosecutors are calling a major breakthrough for global justice. El Hishri, who once ran the notorious Mitiga prison in Tripoli, is accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes. 

According to German and ICC investigators, he oversaw or authorised torture, murder, rape, enforced disappearances, and brutal mistreatment of detainees between 2015 and 2020.

In a dramatic turn of events, South Africa has announced it will "take a break" from next year's G20 gatherings after being excluded by the United States, which assumes the presidency of the group in 2026. 

The decision follows a firm stance by the US, which said the country will not be invited to any of next year's G20 meetings, citing what it claims are concerns over racial policy and "discrimination" against the white Afrikaner minority allegations which  South Africa disputes.

SA to sit out 2026 G20 meetings following US exclusion

The United Nations (UN) has issued a strong condemnation of what it calls an intensifying crackdown on political opposition and press freedom in Uganda just weeks before the country's general elections. The UN's human-rights agency says, at least 550 people including supporters of the main opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP) have been arrested since the beginning of the year.

More than 300 of those arrests occurred after campaigning began in September.

 Lets now talk to Africa Analyst Tele Nzomo about the upcoming Uganda elections.

As South Africa marks 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children until December tenth, Gender Based Violence - GBV,  is not only a criminal crisis but a moral and spiritual one. 80 percent of South Africans identifying with a faith, religious spaces are uniquely placed to shift harmful norms, advocate for survivors, and rebuild community accountability.

 We Will Speak Out South Africa and the Faith Action to End GBV Collective, aim to break silence within faith communities and centre survivor voices through its advocacy work.
