Human rights organisation Amnesty International is calling for urgent action after Tanzanian opposition activist and government critic Twaha Mwaipaya was reportedly abducted in Kenya. Mwaipaya, a former youth leader of Tanzania’s main opposition party, Chadema, disappeared on Sunday while travelling in a taxi near Nairobi.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of political dissidents in the region and allegations of cross-border repression targeting critics of the Tanzanian government.
To discuss the case and its wider implications, Tracey Boomgaard spoke to Sikula Oniala, East Africa Researcher at Amnesty International.
