We got this voice note from Lerato, who ordered a birthday cake for her son Kumo. When she went to collect it, she realised the bakery had spelled his name incorrectly. She says she would never have given them the wrong spelling and was upset that the bakery refused to fix the cake.
And while Lerato’s frustration is understandable, it got us thinking about something bigger: how do we teach our kids to deal with disappointment when things don’t go their way?
Because life is full of moments where you don't get exactly what you wanted — the wrong cake, losing a game, not being chosen for the team, missing out on something your friends are doing, or simply hearing the word “no.” Do you let your child feel the disappointment, or do you immediately try to fix it
