Gun and hate speech reforms pass lower house

View descriptionShare
Historic gun and hate speech reforms have passed the Federal House of Representatives following the Bondi terror attack. Labor's gun ownership reforms cap individual ownership at four firearms, toughen import controls, and make Australian citizenship a condition of ownership, while granting ASIO greater background check powers. The coalition and some independents opposed the reforms, claiming they punish law-abiding gun owners and avoid addressing what they call immigration issues, with the bills now progressing to the Senate.
