New South Wales Police have authorised an Australia Day protest in Sydney's Hyde Park, despite extending a broader ban on mass demonstrations for another 14 days following the Bondi terror attack. Up to 15,000 protesters are expected to march from Hyde Park to Victoria Park on 26 January, with more than 400 police officers assigned to monitor the event. Organisers had threatened to proceed with the rally regardless of police permission, prompting authorities to create specific exemptions for certain areas including Hyde Park.
