Welcome to the inaugural edition of Simply Ottawa – a Sunday subsection of CFRA Weekends. This side of the program is geared towards the history of Canada’s Capital, the landmarks that make this city so great, and the people that make it even better. And as we talk about our city’s history, what better place to start than The Prescott. The beacon of Little Italy, located at the corner of Preston and Beech, has a storied history that spans nearly a century. However, its future is a bit cloudy after it was recently put up for sale. We check in with Trina Costantini-Powell, a Past President of the National Congress for Italian Canadians. She is also the grand-daughter of Giuseppe Costantini – who teamed up with a business partner to open the facility as a hotel in 1934. Meantime, our city has dealt with its fair share of nasty weather this Summer, as a trio of serious rainstorms has increased our collective blood pressure. All within a 6-week span, too. That serves as perfect timing for this message of urgency from the Canadian Red Cross, who are calling all Canadians to be prepared for the next emergency.
