Ottawa Now - Councillor Brockington feels that odds are 'low' that LRT East Extension opens by the end of 2026

View descriptionShare

If you’ve been waiting forever to ride the train to Orleans, you’ll sadly have to keep waiting. The signs to Trim Station may be up, but it’s looking highly unlikely that the train will run all the way there by the end of 2026. And then, we got today’s update from the City of Ottawa. Once again, the unopened LRT East Extension is facing a notable delay – with software issues serving as the latest culprit. The City of Ottawa says the pre-trial running period, originally scheduled for sometime this month, cannot take place until November. Hitachi, the subcontractor that handles this, says it has to update its software before the system can proceed further – work that requires ‘re-programming’. River Ward councillor Riley Brockington, who works on Ottawa’s Transit Committee, has already been acclaimed for the next term of council. Based on the info he has, the odds of the East Extension being opened before January are ‘low’. He joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
