Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Fri. November 15th, 2024

View descriptionShare

Right now, the youngest voting age for any Canadian election is 18 years old. Should it be lowered to 16? One group of teens is pushing for this change after they won the first leg of their fight to get Toronto City Council on board. On Wednesday, councillors in Ontario’s biggest city passed the DM231, allowing the mega-municipality to investigate this idea in city polls. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Valere Gaspard, a Research Fellow at Trent University's Leadership and Democracy Lab. He researches Canadian politics, elections, and democracy. Plus, organizers are gearing up for the 55th edition of the Help Santa Toy Parade, which takes place on Saturday. We deliver a quick preview in Hour 1 and explain how you can help spread the magic of Christmas in mid-November!
