CFRA Weekends - Parents pen petition to address school drinking water

View descriptionShare

Last month, a new report took the Ontario government to task for not taking enough measures to remove lead traces in student drinking water. It was courtesy of the Canadian Environmental Law Association, which handed the Ford government an ‘F’ for Effort. It highlighted one of the main issues: Ontario's standard for lead in water is double the provincial standard, and even low levels of lead can have significant health impacts. Parents of students at Fallingbrook Community Elementary School have started a petition to change that. Andrew Pinsent chats with Matt Stus, Crystal Mask, and Garrett Hansen on CFRA Weekends. Then, he checks in with Ontario Liberal MPP Stephen Blais, who represents the people of Orleans.

Ontario’s Ministry of Environment did not comment on any potential moves to change the provincial standards. OCDSB Supervisor Robert Plamondon did not respond to a request for comment.
