The lights are back on after a lengthy legislative break at Queen’s Park, with the 2026 Ontario Budget highlighting the agenda for Week 1. This year’s $244.2 billion budget includes $101.2 billion for healthcare, $40.8 billion for education, and another $14 billion for post-secondary education. According to the full budget document, the province still intends to get back to a budget surplus by the 2028-2029 fiscal season, but with larger deficits along the way. In fact, the latest deficit has doubled from 12 months ago. However, when it comes to local budgetary perks, this economic gameplan doesn’t bear anything new for Canada’s Capital.
