Months after Australia became the first country to introduce a U-16 social media ban, Canadians appear ready to follow suit. In fact, before a landmark trial verdict turned the world on its head, Canada had already joined the ranks of countries that were considering such a ban. According to a wide-ranging study from the Angus Reid Institute, 61 percent of Canadians believe that today’s teenagers are not capable of using social media in a responsible manner. Andrew Pinsent chats with Holly Shannon, a PHD candidate at Carleton University’s Neuroscience Department, on CFRA Weekends. Her research over the years has focused on social media, some of its addictive qualities, and its overall impact on mental health.
