CFRA Weekends - Dissecting the Hantavirus outbreak, the dangers it poses, and its transmissibility

View descriptionShare

As of Friday afternoon, Ontario was testing 10 people for symptoms of Hantavirus, all of whom have been self-isolating since returning from vacation. Meantime, at least 26 Canadian air travellers may have been exposed to the disease, although all of them are currently labeled as ‘low-risk’ patients. This comes as the World Health Organization reassures humanity that the outbreak, which first took flight on a Dutch cruise ship, is likely contained. Six years after COVID announced its unwelcomed arrival, how should we approach this outbreak? How is this outbreak different from COVID? CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent digs deeper with Dr. Raywat Deonandan, an epidemiologist at the University of Ottawa.
