Incumbent Mayor Mark Sutcliffe has unveiled new platforms on interprovincial free trade in the Ottawa-Gatineau Region, while also advocating for more direct flights to Ottawa. Last week, he proposed a $10 billion plan to fix and expand the City of Ottawa’s roads, sewer infrastructure, and city facilities. Finding that type of cash over a 10-year period isn’t going to be easy, as the municipality currently faces a 10-year infrastructure funding gap of $10.8 billion. Halfway through this year, the City of Ottawa was facing a year-to-date operating deficit of $38.59 million, even though City Staff projected a year-end surplus of $11.16 million. Sutcliffe says the plan will be funded using a combination of tax revenue, development charges, budget savings, and ‘underutilized debt capacity’. Is the Math adding up? Are we kicking this can down the road? Sutcliffe joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.

Ottawa Now - Incumbent Mayor Sutcliffe unveils plan to address Ottawa's infrastructure, but is it enough?

Hockey Night In Canada on free TV has been a longtime staple of our weekend routine. However, as of Saturday, the gameplan to watch your favourite Saturday night contest has drastically changed. Following Rogers’ massive new multi-billion dollar broadcast contract with the NHL, many prominent matchups have been moved exclusively behind paid streaming walls, such as Amazon Prime. One example is Wednesday night's primetime broadcast – and one of the earliest versions will be Brady Tkachuk's return to Ottawa. Even more concerning for today’s fans is what will happen when the Spring arrives, as the Stanley Cup Finals will not be available on free-to-air television anywhere in Canada. Sébastien Higgins is the Director of Strategic Communications, Campaigns, and Engagement at Friends of Canadian Media. He joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
