Australian scientist Professor Katherine Kedzierska has been awarded the prestigious 2026 GSK Award for Research Excellence following two decades of research into why identical viral infections affect patients with vastly different severity. 

Joining Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Mornings, her ground-breaking work identified the "OLAH" gene switch, paving the way for a rapid blood test and targeted drug therapies to predict and prevent fatal inflammatory responses in high-risk patients.
