You feeling.
This is our production of I Heart Ladio and ob Tons Media.
Hey, hey girl, you have a minute.
Yeah, I'm just on my way somewhere, but yeah, for sure. Okay, real quick.
So I met this barista and he's always working when I get coffee, and you know, he's kind of flirty and I can tell he's interested. But then I see him looking at every girl who comes in, and I just I don't like the vibe.
He seems wishy, washy. H Anyway, so we've been talking.
If he's a scorpio, good moon and airy and you know, I feel that's that ambo.
Well, it sounds like he likes you.
You think, I don't know.
Just ask him. You don't have to fuck, it's just coffee.
What if I want.
Buck, dude?
Do it.
No one's gonna judge you for getting laid. Okay, thanks, Okay, So I gotta go, but let's talk later. Let me know how it goes.
Okay, I will okay, Bye, Bye.
Hi, you're late. I know, I'm I'm so sorry. Traffic was just awful. I'm sorry I heard you on the phone just now. I don't need an explanation. Let's just get started. Please take your shoes off. Sure, you can set up on the island. The kitchen is just right there. Perfect. So how did you hear about my work social media? Oh? Nice, well not your social media. Oh I was looking at this one makeup artist. Oh I can't remember her name, Patti Patsy.
Oh yeah, Patty.
We worked at a counter together. Yes, well, I really wanted to work with her today, but she was booked, so she recommended you got it. Well I will have to thank her. How long have you been doing this? About ten years now?
Really?
You look very young? Yes, well I get that a lot.
Yeah.
Well, I'm just about set up here if you'd like to have a seat. Okay, So what kind of look are we going for tonight? This is Flora date night with my husband later. He's not here right now. He always works late. Sure, I want to look polished, Do not make me look like one of those trash reality TV stars. Something chic. I'd like my eyes to pop, but not too much, and don't be afraid to use more eyeliner. I like more of that, of course. Well let me just get started here. I'm just pinning back your bangs and let's get you all primed. What are you doing. Oh, I was just doing some skincare. Am I using too much pressure? I thought you were just gonna do my makeup, not give me a massage, right, of course. Then let's just do the eyes while that product sinks in for shadow. I want something natural, like a mushroom color. Hushroom mushroom, like a white button or a portobello or cremony. Are you trying to be funny? No, not at all. I just wanted to get an idea. Just make it natural. I wish I could see what's going on. Of course, here's the mirror. That color looks really good on you. It's coming together. I think if I add some minor maybe a flick on the outer corner, it would be just enough. Fine. So what do you do for work? I'm in real estate? Oh nice, I love this area. It's right next to downtown Long Beach, but the neighborhood is nice and quiet. So do you angle the mirror towards me? I just want to be able to see what you're doing? Absolutely down a little Messcara, Okay, how do we feel about the liner? Would you like more? Again? I want it to be natural?
Got it?
Then let me just clean up under your eyes. Gout for me, take a closer look and let me know what you think that works.
But they're alive, girl.
I am just so tired of the grind. I can't wait to get to Mexico and just decompress. Yeah, tell me about it. Hey, speaking of the grind, I gotta go. I'm outside this lady's house and I do not want to get caught on the phone again. Oh, she seems like a nightmare.
Why do you go back to her?
I have to eat? Oh, tell me about it. But you always seem like your books solid.
I don't know why you deal with people like that.
Well, you know how it is when you freelance, feast or famine.
Seriously, when has it ever been a famine for you?
Okay, point taken. But you know it's not just me I have to worry about. Yeah, yeah, your mom needs help. Well I guess that's a legitimate reason.
Haha.
For reals, I have to go.
Okay, I have to get back to Okay, bye bye.
You made it on time.
I aim to please. Should I set up in the same spot?
Yeah? Are we getting you ready for a date night again?
Yes?
Actually I'd like something similar to what we did last time. I seem to be the only person who doesn't want to look caked in makeup. It's natural, no problem, all right, and let me just pin back your bangs. We'll just start with the eyes again. No jokes today. Well I'm only funny before five pm. I forgot to mention this last time. But you have a beautiful home. Thanks, it's the craftsman look. It's very long beach, but we tried to put our own style into it, my husband and me. It shows. Are you both from around here? No, we're from Indiana, but we got a job in aerospace, so here we are. Moves are tough. Are you from around here? Yes? But I've heard so many people talk about how hard it is. You don't really get it till it happens to you. Of course, you know, the city isn't perfect. I've always wanted to see what it was like to live somewhere else, maybe get away for a while. You've never left, Nope, not even for schools abroad anything. Nope? Did you well? I was an no parent in Spain for a summer right after high school. Oh that sounds cool. While I was young and it was an experience, you know, Barcelona is incredible. The architecture alone is worth the visit. Being in real estate, I noticed these things. And what about the people. Oh it was hard because my Spanish is terrible, but I actually really liked being an o pair. You know how kids are. What do you mean, Well, they're curious. They tend to look up to you if you show an interest in what they're doing, you know, like books, TV shows. It's nice taking care of someone sometimes. Do you have any plans to travel soon? Yes, well, I'd like to get back to Indianapolis as soon as I have the chance. I can see that. Look this way, it can get really lonely here. What do you mean, Well, you know, people can be cliquey, and there's so much pride in the city. You might not always feel welcome if you're a transplant. Yes, people here are die hard. They are. It's like if I have to hear La compared to Long Beach one more time. All right, all right, it's not all bad. You know. It's the suburbs, but we have stuff. The suburbs are the suburbs, no matter how you dress them up. True, but we have a poor to university, tons of local small businesses and nightlife and arts scene. Okay, okay, I get it. I looked that way. I looked down. What was your favorite thing about Indiana? Well it wasn't organic. You could eat without judgment.
Who you mean?
You didn't hang out with people who need a million substitutions and the people we had our people here. It's hard to find people. Yeah, you know, I'm really lucky because I've had my friends for years. That's the thing about moving away. I can't imagine leaving them. Well, it is hard to make friends as an adult, I'll bet. Okay, Well, we can always tweak a few things. But take a look and let me know what you think that works. You know, I've been thinking about growing out my bangs. Ah, the perpetual bang dilemma. Yeah, I've had them for years. But you know my stylist is back home. You don't do hair to do Actually I do a lot of us do hair and makeup. You want a quick bang from yeah, yeah, but very minimal. I don't want to change the shape, no problem. Let me get my tools. Okay, and look down for me, and I'm just making sure we get all your bangs. You don't want any stragglers and I'm just cutting very little, very conservative. That's it, and I can always go shorter if you like. But take a look and let me know what you think. Oh, it's it's my husband.
Hi.
I'm just getting ready.
What are you sure? But I'm fine?
What happened? What do you mean? I thought the plan was to keep the shape. Oh, well I went very conservative. It's chopped. I'm sorry. Right here, it's chopped. Don't tell me you can't see that. Well, I can just blend. No, don't touch it. It's over. I'm so sorry. Here's your payment. I'm not giving you extra for this botched cut. I'm okay, I mean, of course again, I'm so sorry. Whatever.
What the fuck?
Hi?
I know it's been a while, so thank you so much for giving me another chance. Well you're the only one I know, right, Please just get set up. I impressed for time, of course. So what kind of look were you thinking? Just do what you did last time?
No problem?
What are you doing? Oh? I was just pinning your hair back. But I can work around it if you'd like. This is a mistake. I don't understand. I don't want my hair touched. That's fine, I can work around it. No, I need you to leave, you need me to leave? Yes, you owe me one hundred and fifty bucks one hundred and fifty dollars, and I'm not leaving here without it. You think you can just treat people like shit and expect them to take it. Oh, people like me. You think you're so much better with your big ass house. Just give me my money. Don't ever text me again. I'm sorry what I just wanted to say. I'm sorry. It's not you. I know, it's not me. I know, I know. It's just I haven't been myself for a while now, and I don't want you to think you're the first real person I've had a conversation with since I got here.
M hm.
M m.
Cat.
Hey, you can make friends here. You just have to be more open. Would it kill you to crack a smile? I know, but it's not just that. Then what.
The reason I don't what my hair touched is because it's falling out? Really, I don't see anything.
I've started chemo.
Oh, I'm so sorry. That is just awful.
You really shouldn't be alone right now. Maybe call your husband. You're not my husband, not anymore. I'm so sorry. Is it the sadest think in the world that you're the only one who knows. Sometimes it's easier to share these things with a stranger. I guess I don't even know your name. It's Anne. Call me Annie, Annie. Okay, can I give you another hug? Come on? Come on? Okay. You know I've heard that some women claim their power back but shaving their head before it all falls out. Yes, I've heard that. D do you have your clippers? Maybe? Are you going to yell at me afterwards? I can't make any promises. I guess I will have to take my chances. One, have a seat. Are you sure you wanna do this? Yes? You don't have to decide now, I'm sure. Hey, you're in good hands. Thank you, Annie, You're welcome.
