Looking back on my life it’s been a history of mostly bad mistakes. The thing I’d like to talk about is that I wish I’d paid attention to just how right my mother was when she would criticise and guide me away from the easy way.
Growing up, it was a fault of mine, I looked for the way out, the get-rich scheme, the way to jump the queue and get ahead without all the hard work. My mother constantly repeated – and she was right – that all of that was pissing away effort, time and money and that instead, the easy way is not the easy way and that it doesn’t work by and large, and that if you put the effort into doing something positive and work on it, in the end, it will be much quicker. Ultimately that paid off and I have changed my life quite a bit realising my mother’s wisdom.
Choose something important to you, that you really like, want and need to do and pour your effort into that and master the toolsets that you need to acquire to achieve that. That’s where you need to focus your energy and your time, not on the easy way or route that people are promising results instantly, that’s bullshit.
We’re fed the idea that wealth is the key to success and achievement. From one perspective, it can be. There are some people who highly value the opinion of others; they’re stuck in that materialistic paradigm. I learned that the world’s opinion matters very little in your personal life. The materialistic game that so many of us are taught to play is a rigged game that does not lead to happiness.

If you take the easy way what you’re doing is pouring your energy down a rat hole, it’s not gonna work because it’s sold by someone who’s benefitting in some way it’s not designed to help you.’‘Even though it’s not attractive, pretty, glittery or shiny that so many of us reach for, that stoic, rough, granite-like worldview is based solidly on reality and hard experience. It’s real wisdom.’‘Patience and persistence always win, that’s the key to success.’‘Material things and the opinion of the world about what happiness and success look like are lies.’

One of the things I didn’t realise is how difficult life can be if you don’t keep things simple. When you’re young and free and you explore and try new things you can encounter difficulties you were unaware of because you don’t understand the great, wide world. Paul Kelly’s young parents divorced before he started primary school, resulting in him and his mother going to live with his loving grandparents.

From starting primary school, Paul was always a keen sportsman, excelling at swimming, football, chess and cricket, and after establishing himself as a regular in the Nottinghamshire (UK) cricket set-up, his grandmother decided to give him the opportunity to go to a private school to play his beloved sport, something he continued in Australia.

On his return to England, Paul was attacked after a night out and hospitalised, suffering temporary blindness, a double fractured skull and memory loss. After ten days in a coma, he awoke and started to try and rebuild his life; however, he encountered severe depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, and heavy drinking binges.

With the help of family & friends, step-by-step, Paul began the road to recovery and happiness – a 25-year roller-coaster journey – that has taught him vital lessons…particularly using stress to achieve success.

As a child, I rarely found adults to answer my questions, so I became very curious, and I’d have discussions with myself to get clarity on what I wanted to do and achieve. I didn’t know that was normal and that other people did it.
If you have a challenge, it’s obvious that by stepping into that challenge/problem/issue, that’s where the solution is. You cannot think yourself out of where you’ve acted yourself into. By stepping into the challenge, you’ve acted yourself there. The only way to get out of it is not the way that took you there, it’s a different way of thinking.

I don’t think we’re meant to look back. This is contradictory to our experience as humans because every single thing that happens in our lives is for learning, so if you take that away the learning also goes with it. I take to heart having no regrets. Of course, there are things in life that you wish didn’t happen, that were painful, but if you’re honest with yourself and think about those things, you can identify the growth that came as a result.
I’ve had some tangles with nature, I was nearly bitten by a rattlesnake, I was stung by a baby scorpion in my bathroom, and I was bitten 5 times by a black widow spider in a single attack in my bed, where we’re most vulnerable. After a lot of physical problems this I started to school myself on energy medicine, I learned there was a really strong message in that connection with that spider. In my ego mind I think it would have been great if that didn’t happen, but what would my life be like right now if I didn’t go down the path of studying energy medicine? What would I be missing if I didn’t have that experience?
Spiders symbolize creation, transformation, balance, and harmony offering powerful healing qualities for mind body, and spirit. This happened just before a time when I had a great awakening, I think back to that spider energy medicine, and it was very appropriate for the time. It signaled a rebirth for me.

‘I feel like I’m on a daily quest to learn new things, it’s always at the forefront of my consciousness. I’m always asking why, what, and how'.

I used to take criticism of my writings or talks personally. But a wise person said to me: “Those are the people you’re impacting the most because you’re pushing them outside of their comfort zone, so don’t take offense by the people that respond badly, realise that you’ve started to catalyse change and development within them.” That was incredibly powerful, potent and important to me.
In a time that’s becoming increasingly polarised and a world in which we see our differences as chasms between us, if only we could come together and realise and respect those differences and find out how we could harness those differences to make something magical, the world would be a lot better place.

I didn’t know, until I’d done a lot of work on myself, that things happen for you and no to you, and that you are in control of the things that you receive in your life, and that you don’t have to be the ‘victim’ of life, you can be the creator of your life.
A person who has a happy life is a person who’s predominantly living from a place of love, abundance, trust and faith rather than the opposite, living from a place of lack, worry, fear and doubt. If you’re living from that place you’ll experience life very differently even if you experience the same things.
People aren’t even aware that they’re sometimes living in a space of fear, doubt and worry because we’ve been subjected and conditioned to be in those negative experiences and emotions through the media, governments, our communities, peer pressure, bad parenting. When you become aware of that it’s very empowering to work on changing it.
Self-love is quite hard for most of us because of our conditioning. Thes easiest way to start that process is to think of yourself as a little boy or girl, remember what they looked like, and then see them when you look in the mirror because it’s easier to love, comfort and give wise words of wisdom to them rather than your own reflection. Eventually you get to loving the reflection of you as you are today in that process.

Perception is a brilliant word: You might thing you’re doing a brilliant job, but someone might say you’re doing it all wrong. One of you might be right, one of you might be wrong, but it’s all about what people think. 
Our thoughts can be very powerful, and they can cause us to overthink and that’s when people can become stressed. It’s very difficult at times to park our thoughts and say: “Is that thought valid?” Being able to validate your thoughts is what it’s all about and discount the thoughts that don’t serve us.
The power of detaching your emotions from a situation, good or bad, is a very difficult power to learn. But, if you can, you can see the positives in negatives or you don’t get too carried away with the positive. The ability to remain neutral is a fantastic thing.
You need to let go. If someone’s done you wrong and you’re carrying around that black cloud above your head and thinking negative things about them, you should actually just go about your own business. Forget that bad experience, just let it go. It doesn’t serve you, it’s like carrying poison around with you and sipping it every day, it’s making you worse not better.

Paul’s young parents divorced before he started primary school, resulting in him and his mother going to live with his loving grandparents.

From starting primary school, Paul was always a keen sportsman, excelling at swimming, football, chess and cricket, and after establishing himself as a regular in the Nottinghamshire (UK) cricket set-up, his grandmother decided to give him the opportunity to go to a private school to play his beloved sport, something he continued in Australia.

On his return to England, Paul was attacked after a night out and hospitalised, suffering temporary blindness, a double fractured skull and memory loss. After ten days in a coma, he awoke and started to try and rebuild his life; however, he encountered severe depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, and heavy drinking binges.

With the help of family & friends, step-by-step, Paul began the road to recovery and happiness – a 25-year roller-coaster journey – that has taught him vital lessons…particularly using stress to achieve success.

After ten days in a coma, he awoke and started to try and rebuild his life; however, he encountered severe depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, and heavy drinking binges.

One thing I wish I knew earlier is the wisdom of women, especially the woman I’ve been blessed to be with for a very long time. She has a wisdom that comes naturally. As a younger man, I – and other I know – thought that if it’s not logical and well-thought, planned and organised that it can’t be very wise or intelligent. Now this woman says things from her gut and I wonder how she comes up with them and she doesn’t know either! 
Women have an intrinsic way of seeing things that are so far from the thinking of men that it’s almost impossible to believe. But I learned to listen to it and I know it makes sense. The advice she gives me are gold.
If my partner tells me about a problem or a struggle she’s having I now know that I don’t have to fix it until she asks me to. What should I do? Nothing. I just sit there and listen and hug her if she wants to be hugged, and that’s it. It sounds paradoxical, but it makes me more male and her more female. If I fix it, the whole story becomes male.
