A lot of Christians today believe that we don’t need the Old Testament, that it was just for the Jews, and that when Jesus established Christianity, He REPLACED the Old Testament.

There’s a lot of teachers touting this too, and it is just part of the Replacement Theology, that the JEWS are cursed by God.

But we need to be careful about how we think about that. We often use the term “OLD TESTAMENT” to mean the OLD SECTION of our Bible, and the NEW TESTAMENT to mean the CHRISTIAN section of our Bible.

But the word TESTAMENT also means Covenant. God TOOK AWAY the NEED for the OLD COVENANT SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM, which NEVER CLEANSED anyone from sin. It TEMPORARILY COVERED sin, and enabled the one who offered it to DRAW CLOSE to God and be RIGHT with Him.

Jesus REPLACED that Original Sacrificial SYSTEM by His OWN PERFECT, ETERNAL Sacrifice, but He did NOT REPLACE the Old Testament SCRIPTURES with the NEW. It is the FOUNDATION of CHRISTIANITY. All the prophecies point to JESUS, both His FIRST and SECOND coming.
