Dr Jessica Bayes - The Effect of Diet on Depression

View descriptionShare

Dr. Jessica Bayes led a pioneering clinical trial known as the AMMEND study (A Mediterranean Diet in MEN with Depression), which assessed the effects of a Mediterranean diet on the symptoms of depression in young men aged 18–25. Conducted at the University of Technology Sydney, this 12-week randomised controlled trial was the first of its kind to explore this dietary intervention in this specific demographic.

Participants adhering to the Mediterranean diet experienced significant improvements in depressive symptoms compared to the control group, results highlighting the important role of nutrition for the treatment of depression.
