Is There a Difference Between a Patio, Veranda and a Mezzanine?

View descriptionShare

After one innocent question about the meaning of “mezzanine”, we spend an entire bonus patch trying to define architectural spaces.

We begin with mezzanines, atriums, lofts, and colosseums before descending into a heated classification debate covering balconies, patios, porches, verandas, pergolas, terraces, and decks. What makes a balcony a balcony? Can you flee one? Does a patio need furniture?

Thanks again to all our patrons for supporting the show. We love you dearly, even if none of us can correctly identify a veranda.
