Over 60 per cent of Indigenous students in the Northern Territory need extra support with reading and numeracy.
That's according to the latest NAPLAN test results.
In other states and the ACT that figure is around 33 per cent.
It's led to calls for a change to the education system especially for Indigenous students who speak English as a second language.
