Greg and Phil talk with Dr. Channing Smith Petrak, Medical Director of the Pediatric Resource Center, about the organization’s mission to provide specialized, child-centered medical care and social services to children when there are concerns of abuse or neglect. She explains how potential cases of neglect come to the organization’s attention, some of the circumstances that can contribute to neglect, and the specialized training staff undergo to properly evaluate and support children and families. She also previews the PRC’s annual Hope Fundraiser on Saturday, October 17 from 6–10 p.m., which raises money to help provide specialized medical services for children who may have experienced abuse or neglect.

Greg and Phil talk with Dr. Colleen Blackburn, Vice President of Operations and Special Projects at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center and Chair of the Central Illinois Heart Ball, about the upcoming Central Illinois Heart Ball on Friday, October 2. She discusses the mission behind the event and the work of the American Heart Association to improve cardiovascular health throughout Central Illinois. She explains why the cause is so important to her personally and professionally, drawing on her years of experience in cardiovascular care, and highlights how support helps advance lifesaving medical research, health education, access to care and policies aimed at preventing heart disease and stroke.

He discusses the popularity of the cemetery’s guided nature and history programming and previews several events coming up this fall. The Historic Springdale Cemetery Tours return for the next two weekends, using costumed portrayals of notable people buried at Springdale to bring different eras of Peoria’s history to life. He also highlights a special All Souls Day yoga event planned for November 1, offering another way for visitors to experience the peaceful grounds, and the Screaming Pumpkin on Saturday, October 24, a nighttime running and walking event through Springdale featuring distances ranging from two miles to a full marathon.
